Suggested Use

Recommended adult dose: 2 softgels daily, 30–45 minutes before bedtime, or as directed by a health care practitioner. 5-HTP can cause stomach sensitivity in some people. For this reason it is recommended that you do not take this product on an empty stomach. For use beyond
4 weeks, consult a health care practitioner.

Warning

Consumption with alcohol, other medications or natural health products with sedative properties is not recommended. Consult a health care practitioner if sleeplessness persists continuously for more than 3 weeks (chronic insomnia), or if symptoms persist or worsen. Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you have asthma, cardiovascular disease, a hormonal disorder, diabetes or hypoglycaemia, immune system disease, liver or chronic kidney disease, seizure disorders, migraine, depression, or if you are taking carbidopa or drugs/supplements with serotonergic activity. These may include, but are not limited to L-tryptophan, S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), St. John’s wort, antidepressants, pain killers, over-the-counter cough and/or cold medications containing dextromethorphan, anti-nausea or anti-migraine medications. Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you are taking any of the following medications: anticoagulant, anticonvulsant, blood pressure medications, immunosuppressive medications, sedative, hypnotic or psychotropic medications, or steroids. Some people may experience diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Discontinue use and consult a health care practitioner if you show signs of weakness, oral ulcers, or abdominal pain accompanied by severe muscle pain, or if you experience skin changes. Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have scleroderma. Do not drive or use machinery for 5 hours after taking this product and exercise caution if you are involved in activities requiring mental alertness. Some people may experience drowsiness. Mild gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, or cramping) and rare allergic reactions have been known to occur, in which case discontinue use. Keep out of the reach of children.
